London Fashion Week was in full swing and the capital was well and truly buzzing with the creativity and drama that can only be generated by the most rock and roll city in the world! I’ve was totally glued to my computer until the Friday; there is nothing I love more than seeing the new trends exploding into life, as I imagine myself next summer dressed in the most up-to-the-minute togs, with my home décor just as achingly hip.
The first show of the week did not disappoint, as rising star Mark Fast, boldly lived up to his manifesto of ‘tackling women’s courage in modern society’ by sending size 12 and 14 models down the runway in barely-there cutaway knits, a move which reportedly caused two of his creative team to resign in the process. Oh, I do love a bit of drama!
PPQ followed suit with a show which featured only black models. The collection was overtly 70s in tone and featured a stunning fusion of bold, graphic prints with sportswear twists injected by retro Adidas t-shirts. Completely wearable, I can see it sparking a massive psychedelic 70s revival for 2010. At Crown we have some great oranges, mustards, pinks and blues that could recreate this look beautifully in a home. I’m already picturing how to put the feature wall together now…
However, my favourite show of the week was undoubtedly that of the queen of punk, Vivienne Westwood. A celebration of the beauty of Britain, Westwood’s show saw models emerging from a twisted tree trunk and skipping down the catwalk in a flurry of creations that were innately British. Think Alice in Wonderland having afternoon tea with the Frog Prince, on a grand country estate! It was all about plaids, pinstripes, straw hats and cosy knits for those cooler summer nights. It really conjures up romantic fairytale visions and makes me want to move away to the country to decorate a converted barn in Crown’s Period Colours.
All this fashion fever is getting me even more excited as the brand new Topshop store has opened in Liverpool One – I feel the need to go shopping
