The Power of Purple

Forget Pantone’s 17-1463 Tangerine Tango, the latest collection from Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel champion’s dramatic shades of purple as the tone that all fashion forward homeowners need to be thinking about.

The collection, which featured a sparkling spectrum of pretty tones, mixed the usual staple shapes and layering with the newest trends of trousers under anything from skirts, blouse and shifts. The addition of big jackets and the oversized coats helped set the collection apart from most – worked upon with wonderful embellishment, feathers and appliqué.

Lagerfeld’s affliction to the colour purple is an outstanding trend that can be easily mimicked in interiors – weather its translated with the addition of new accessories, or whether it involves a whole room makeover – it’s sure to be a powerful look this Autumn.

For an indulgent living space, we suggest combining purple shades with more muted shades of greys. Try combining Prom Night® with Aspen Silver®, both from our Indulgence collection, for a look that delivers a balanced colour scheme that oozes as much glamour as a Chanel ensemble.

To explore our full range of purple and greys, make sure you head over to our official website.

As the Spice Girls reunite this week to launch a new musical based on their songs, we’re welcoming a retro revival of all things 90s.

Scary, Sporty, Ginger, Baby and Posh. Put these five words together before 1996 and they would be nothing more than a meaningless list. Fast forward sixteen years and Scary, Sporty, Ginger, Baby and Posh make up one of the most successful girl bands in music history. The five members of the Spice Girls were reunited this week for the launch of a new £50 million Spice Girls musical, Viva Forever!, written by the grande dame of British comedy Jennifer Saunders.

Spice Girls fever is just one example of the 90s revival that is sweeping the fashion, design and culture circuits in 2012. The 90s brought us Nirvana and The Stone Roses, Babydoll dresses and Doc Martins, The X Files and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air… and who could forget the iconic haircut of the decade – The Rachel? If you’re feeling a bit nostalgic and you’re looking to bring back the 90s vibe to your interiors, Crown Paints have got some top tips for decorating the decade.

Be inspired by the bright colour blocking of 90s fashion – go for a statement colour from our Fashion For Walls® collection. Try teaming Euphoria® with the more neutral Refined® or, alternatively, make your room a true homage to 90s fashion with our aptly named Double Denim®. If you’re looking for authentic 90s shades direct from the decade, 1997 Aqua® and 1990 Natural® – both from our Originals® collection – are the perfect on-trend pairing.
