Lavender fields in full bloom – inspiring this year’s home interiors colour trends

Fields of deep purple and delicate mauve under a deep blue sky – the stunning sight of Lavender fields in full bloom in the glorious spring sunshine are inspiring this year’s latest colour trend.

Stylish purple tones offer a contemporary, modern interior. Choosing shades such as our luxury matt emulsion, Prom Night® from the Fashion for Walls® range and High Society® Crown Period Colours® Traditional Mid Sheen – signify decadent elegance, comfort and luxury. The perfect backdrop for the most imposing bedroom or majestic living room, these purple hues make for an attractive feature wall.

Lavender is synonymous with the scent and colour of Provence, so why not use the forthcoming Bank Holiday as the opportunity to bring a little bit of the Mediterranean into your kitchen, with a splash of our Lola Plum® Matt Emulsion with added Mouldguard™ from the Kitchen & Bathroom range.

Combine deep purples with neutral creams, such as a whisper of Liqueur, our Whispers Matt Emulsion or light greys, such as Soft Steel® Kitchen & Bathroom Matt Emulsion. And to finish the look, team with dark golden or sand, deep red or pink, sky blue, citrus yellow or light green accessories to create a warm and personal, modern French kitchen feel.

To help inspire you to paint over the Bank Holiday weekend, our stockists have some great offers to get you started.

Use Nature’s Colours to Inspire your Home

Garden Designer, Kathryn Hibberd, loves nothing more than spending time amongst the colourful flowers in her garden. Here she blogs about the colours of nature, spending time in her garden and bringing the outside in.

My early morning walk with the dog is at last basked in sunshine. Gone are the city grey clouds and drab brown of the trees, replaced by marshmallow pink blossom, which nestles next to vivid blue skies surrounded by bright green leaves and purple tinted Bluebells – nature really does know how to colour match!

As a garden designer, people always expect me to have a lovely garden but, truth is, it’s a work in progress and has been a bit neglected over the last couple of years. Two consecutive years of doing Show Gardens has taken its toll at Holly House – until now, this week in fact.

With all this good weather I’ve managed to get some work done; formal box hedging now gives way to a riot of colour and interesting foliage, while a smart gravel path leads you through to my neatly mowed lawn.

And, it’s not just the outside where you can see the benefits – the sight of seasonal colour from your windows can do wonders for your wellbeing.  On those mornings when I have to drag myself out of bed and into the shower, it’s uplifting to glance out of the window and see pretty pink flowers waving in the wind.

So why not use some of nature’s colours inside your home too? You can’t beat a fresh bunch of yellow tulips against a crisp white wall or a beautiful green fern coupled with soft cream woodwork.  Crown has a great range of paints that are perfect for brightening up any room in your home. My favourites are Happy Daze®, Pea Pod® and Fairy Dust® Matt & Silk Emulsions and Sky High® Easyclean Matt Emulsion.

The Bank Holiday Begins

Crown Colour consultant Judy Smith has written a great blog post about the joys of decorating over the Bank Holiday weekends. Read on for some expert advice on how to make the most of the latest colour trends in your home.

It’s the Bank Holiday season, and with such good weather forecast it really does make me feel like doing a bit of new brooming throughout the house. It’s time to clean the windows, clear out the clutter that always seems to amass over the winter, and take a new and fresh look at our rooms. I’m really inspired by the bright upbeat colours around in fashion and interiors right now, and it’s easy to bring touches of them into the home for an instant update.

If you have a plain white kitchen, consider painting one wall or a splash-back in a bright orange – I really like the new Seville Orange from the Crown Kitchen & Bathroom range. I also like playing around with old furniture and giving it a new lease of life with paint. For a quirky look that will get your friends talking, experiment with Crown’s Ultimate range of matt paints for walls and wood. Try painting a bold feature wall and take the colour right onto the skirting, then paint a chest of drawers in the same colour and place next to the wall. My favourites are Aqua Mid and Aqua Dark – the brightest blues and turquoise used with tones of green are absolutely on the money at the moment.
