Crown Paints has recently been acquired by world-leading coatings supplier, Hempel.

The transaction sees UK private equity house, Endless LLP, successfully exit Crown Paints after acquiring the business in September 2008.  The terms and value of the transaction are undisclosed.

Hempel, which was established in Denmark nearly a century ago, is now a global business and supplies products to the decorative, protective, marine, container and yacht markets in more than 80 countries. The company recorded profits of €92 million on revenues of €889 million in 2010.

Hempel has acquired Crown Paints as one of the market leading businesses in the decorative coatings sector in the UK and Eire. In line with its growth strategy, Hempel now plans to draw on Crown Paints’ expertise in order to strengthen its decorative presence.

Endless and the management team at Crown Paints achieved a successful turnaround of the previously loss-making business in 2008 and went on to achieve profits of £20 million on sales of £180 million in 2010, whilst also increasing its market share for the last three years. Under Hempel’s ownership, they will continue to develop the business in the UK and Eire, retaining all of their brands and entire product range as well as continuing their commitment to best in class sustainability measures.

Colours for Life – Celebrate the Royal Wedding with our Fantastic Competition

The big day is fast approaching and it’s not only the royal couple who are feeling excited, the celebratory mood can be felt across the nation with communities busy organising street parties, friends confirming where they’ll be watching and families planning how early they need to get up to get the best spot near Westminster Abbey. Yes, of course we’re talking about the biggest event of the year – the royal wedding!

To celebrate the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton we’re offering one lucky couple the chance to transform their home courtesy of Crown Paints.

Perhaps you are looking forward to collaboratively decorating your home with your partner and could do with some colour advice. Whatever the scenario, we’re on hand to give Britain’s couples an opportunity to freshen up their home.

It’s well documented that women are the ones who choose the colour scheme and styling in the home, while men are roped into the actual DIY, and more often than not, both parties will end up disagreeing on what the end result should be – leading to fights and friction.

We want to combat the issues that can arise from trying to bring two very different personal styles together, by providing couples with a well-balanced living space from day one – which is why our lucky winners will receive a personal Crown Colour Consultation, where we’ll help them combine their favourite colours and pick a perfect palette that’s personal to them – we’ll even throw in the paint.

Taking part is simple; just follow the instructions detailed below.

1. First, you need to find the answer to the simple question: 'what is the name of the Crown Paints colour featured on the wall above the fireplace in this image?’

Crown Brantiques Unveiled

Back in January we told you how excited we were about Crown Brantiques, our latest project with the Royal College of Art which involves students upcycling furniture with our primers, undercoats, Gloss, Satin and Matt paints for wood & metal. Today the three creative pieces are unveiled in a stunning window display at Graham and Green’s Notting Hill store – just in time for London Design Festival!

To mark the occasion our friends over at Mydeco.com have come to see how the pieces look in-store and have a chat with Sarah Seaton-Burridge who designed the multi-functional, hanging chair about the inspirations behind her piece. Judy Smith, Crown Colour Consultant, will also give her view on the Brantiques collaboration, emerging design trends and colour prediction trends. Look out for the video which is going live on Mydeco.com on the 17th March.

The Graham and Green offering includes two distinctive trompe l'oeil inspired chairs designed by Emily Murray, Sarah Seat-Burridge’s chair-as-storage-unit design and Laura Amstein’s marble effect, vintage sideboard.

Although these innovative pieces look very at home in Graham and Green, we are sure they wont be staying there for very long!

Ultimate Decorative Champion

We are over the moon that our new Crown Ultimate™ range of technologically advanced matt emulsion has been awarded Gold in the Show Stoppers Best New Decorative Product Award at the 2011 Totally DIY Show!

The six Gold Winners and 11 Silver Winners of the Show Stoppers Best New Product Awards were announced during the show's first night drinks party. When awarding Ultimate its Gold for Best New Decorative Product, the judges commented that, ‘This is emulsion, but not as we know it, as it can be used on wood and metal. It's ultra-tough, appeals to the male consumer and creates a whole new market. And all with great packaging and colour card.’

We’re thrilled that the judges have recognized the steps we have taken with Ultimate™; it’s our most innovative paint range ever, and their nod of approval is a real honour for everyone that made our vision for the future of decorating really come to life.

We were at the show from Sunday to Tuesday and our stand looked great. It was full of colour and character and each of the many new products grabbed the attention of everyone that stopped by. A truly successful show!

The full Crown Paints Ultimate range is avaialabe to buy online at B&Q.
