Colour Therapy for Couples

Whether you’re a newlywed or have just set up home with your partner, regardless of how much you think you have in common, deciding on what colour to decorate your home can be the cause of arguments among even the most smitten of couples.

Here at Crown, we’ve just had the results in from our new study into the decorating habits of UK couples, and 20 per cent of co-habiting couples are currently at war over how to decorate their homes.

We’ve discovered that women are less likely to compromise when it comes to interior design, with only 4 out of 10 happy to negotiate to keep their other halves happy, compared with a more willing 6 out of 10 men.

Aside from colour, a big no, no for women are their partner’s games consoles and CD/DVD collections, with 30 per cent saying that they would like to banish them from the home all together. In response, 19 per cent of men would rather all photographic reminders of their in-laws are removed from the mantelpiece.

To unite those who cannot compromise on taste or colour, we have created some customised paint tins, just in time for the forthcoming Bank Holiday weekends.

Each tin can be customised with yours and your partner’s name, making it special to you both. You can even choose a paint colour that you actually agree on from the Crown Paints colour palette! We have ten of these limited edition tins to giveaway.

To enter, all you have to do is enter this week’s Free Paint Friday and tell us who makes the decorating decisions in your home – you or your partner, and then email or tweet us your answer.

To email, send your answer along with your name and address to crownpaintscompetitions@gmail.com

To tweet us, just follow us on Twitter and @ us your answer.

Five winners will be chosen at random from the email answers and five winners will be chosen from the tweeted answers.

Winners will be chosen at 5pm on Friday 15th April.

Good Luck and Happy Bank Holiday decorating!

Colours for Life – Celebrate the Royal Wedding with our Fantastic Competition

The big day is fast approaching and it’s not only the royal couple who are feeling excited, the celebratory mood can be felt across the nation with communities busy organising street parties, friends confirming where they’ll be watching and families planning how early they need to get up to get the best spot near Westminster Abbey. Yes, of course we’re talking about the biggest event of the year – the royal wedding!

To celebrate the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton we’re offering one lucky couple the chance to transform their home courtesy of Crown Paints.

Perhaps you are looking forward to collaboratively decorating your home with your partner and could do with some colour advice. Whatever the scenario, we’re on hand to give Britain’s couples an opportunity to freshen up their home.

It’s well documented that women are the ones who choose the colour scheme and styling in the home, while men are roped into the actual DIY, and more often than not, both parties will end up disagreeing on what the end result should be – leading to fights and friction.

We want to combat the issues that can arise from trying to bring two very different personal styles together, by providing couples with a well-balanced living space from day one – which is why our lucky winners will receive a personal Crown Colour Consultation, where we’ll help them combine their favourite colours and pick a perfect palette that’s personal to them – we’ll even throw in the paint.

Taking part is simple; just follow the instructions detailed below.

1. First, you need to find the answer to the simple question: 'what is the name of the Crown Paints colour featured on the wall above the fireplace in this image?’

You’ve entered in your droves and now the day of reckoning is finally upon us. Today we’re heading to Manchester to judge the competition to find the soundtrack to our new ad.

Working with top music blog www.anewbandaday.com we’ve been unearthing the hottest sounds from the music world as we uncover new talent to work with, and we’ve been overwhelmed by the quality and number of tracks received.

It’s been a difficult task even getting to a shortlist, but we’ve been lucky enough to have a helping hand from some of the industry’s finest including legendary band maker James Endeacott – who signed The Libertines and oversaw The Strokes’ UK career – and Wayne Hemmingway, local fashion label genius.

We’d like to give you a sneak preview of some of our favourite tracks, so if you click this link you can listen to the shortlist while we get on with our judging.

We’ll unveil the winning act here tomorrow, so watch this space!

Unfortunately I’m writing this a few days after the event, but I’m still going to say ‘WOW’ what a night! I’m talking about the Orange RockCorps gig at Manchester Apollo last Thursday which featured Mr Hudson, Vampire Weekend, Tinie Tempah and mr Snoop Dogg himself!!
For those that haven’t heard of Orange RockCorps, it’s a partnership between RockCorps; a social production company, and Orange, who use the power of music to inspire young people to volunteer just 4 hours of their time in their local community. Projects in Manchester ranged from a youth centre in Ordsall to an adventure playground in Moss Side. And the reward for getting involved? Gig’s and events like last Thursday’s which are absolutely, totally and entirely free!! Basically, ‘Give and Get Given’.
The reason I’m talking about all of this is because Crown Paints donate the paint that’s used in all the UK projects. This is our first year being involved and allows us to work with a really fantastic, UK wide community project, whilst also being a much more environmentally friendly way of using any of our damaged or end of line paint. So simple yet so effective for all involved.
And honestly, I’m just a little bit inspired to pick up my paintbrush and spade and get involved myself…
